“This is contributing to the whole normalizing of anti-Palestinian racism, and downgrading of Palestinians as if they are not human beings.”

Israeli soldiers are updating their Tinder profiles with pictures they took during fighting in Gaza, holding guns, munitions, and at times showing the devastation wrought on the Gaza Strip by Israel’s military, which so far has killed more than 30,000 Palestinians according to health officials in Gaza.

Hen Levi, an Israeli woman, posted a series of screenshots of Tinder profiles on Twitter showing the profiles of Israeli soldiers, with their faces redacted. In one selfie, a soldier shows himself on an abandoned street with damaged apartment buildings behind him. In another image, a soldier with an assault rifle is aiming over a wall, behind which we can see more bombed out buildings. In yet another picture, a soldier is facing the camera holding an assault rifle in each hand, pointing out.

“Tell me, does it seem sane to you that 40 percent of Tinder in Israel looks like this,” Levi asked in her tweet, in Hebrew. “Haven’t Israeli women suffered enough??” she added in English.

Levi said on Twitter that after she shared these images, other Israeli women got in touch with her to share similar profiles they saw on Tinder. Levi shared some of those images, which also redacted the men’s faces and some other identifying information, with me.
