A hacker has stolen a wealth of data from health giant Bausch Health, has attempted to extort the company, and has told associates they think the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) will buy back the data, 404 Media has found. Bausch has known about the breach for some time according to chat logs, but only confirmed it after the hacker went public with their data sale and extortion attempt on an underground forum. The hacker also believed the DEA may pay a ransom for the data, which includes registration numbers the DEA assigns to medical professionals in the prescription of controlled substances, according to the chat logs.

The news is the latest fallout from compromises of accounts with Snowflake, a data warehousing tool. The same hacker who has obtained the Bausch data is linked to the breaches of Ticketmaster and other Snowflake-related hacks, according to chat logs.
