Fans of Hatsune Miku are furious that the fictional Japanese pop star did not perform at her live show in her uncanny hologram form, and instead just appeared on what looks like a large flatscreen TV that was set up on stage.
Technically speaking, Hatsune Miku is a vocaloid software developed by Crypton Future Media, which essentially allows anyone to use her likeness and digital voice to create music. But she is also a bonafide virtual pop idol with a large, global following, and has been performing at live shows for years. Since Hatsune Miku doesn’t have a physical form, she often performs as a hologram, much like the famous 2Pac “live” coachella performance in 2012, which involves setting up a clear screen on stage, onto which a digital image can be projected, making it appear as if Hatsune Miku is on stage.
